If you've had rats, raccoons or other animals in your attic more than once, the missing piece is almost always exclusion โ sealing the structure so wildlife can't get back in. Here's how it works.
Attics are easy targets
South Florida homes offer wildlife plenty of ways into the attic: gaps at the roofline and fascia, aging soffits, uncapped vents, spaces around utility penetrations, and overhanging branches that give animals a route to the roof. Warm attics make ideal denning and nesting sites.
Different animals exploit different weaknesses, which is why exclusion has to be thorough and species-appropriate.
The exclusion process
A proper job starts with a full inspection documenting every actual and potential entry point. Those are then sealed with durable materials โ heavy screening, sealed vents, reinforced soffit and roof-line closures. If animals are currently inside, they're removed first (never sealing young in), then the openings are closed.
Trimming vegetation back from the roof and addressing attractants completes the picture.
This is the permanent fix
Exclusion is what turns 'we removed the animal' into 'the problem is solved.' It ends the cycle of repeat removals and protects your attic, insulation and wiring for the long term.
